A straightforward ecosystem for NSW Health data

The Challenge

SAPHaRI is NSW Health’s secure data analytics platform, improving public health by enabling data-driven insights. After providing a service evaluation of SAPHaRI in 2015, NSW Health re-engaged Praxis to design a single point of access for SAPHaRI to allow users to connect with each other to build a community of practice. The major objectives were to clarify SAPHaRI’s service offering and reduce the burden on support staff.

Having already completed a service evaluation including interviewing a broad range of stakeholders, Praxis was in an ideal situation to immerse ourselves in the problem space and understand business goals behind the portal. A persona review was used to overcome gaps in user's' current understanding of the system, with some new personas developed to address this and add to data from the previous project.

The SAPHaRI team was involved closely in the process through a series of facilitated workshops. An existing early stage prototype from the SAPHaRI team was used as a key requirements document. This ensured that all stakeholders had a clear understanding of design decisions.

A low-fidelity prototype based on needfinding activities and participatory design was developed to prove the new information architecture and portal concept. A final high-fidelity interface design was provided to the developers, with ongoing recommendations for emerging technology restraints.

“I was looking at the portal for some information and ended up browsing through all the sections. I think it is brilliant and incredibly clear. We can even leverage some of this for future projects.”
